Art Basel: The Private View

Art Basel opens its doors to the public on the 19th of June. But for those who matter to the fair, it begins considerably earlier — in private previews, in gallery dinners, in conversations held in hotel suites overlooking the Rhine.

The vernissage, held on the 17th, is nominally the opening. In practice, the most significant transactions have already been concluded by the time the champagne is poured.
